Italy single allowance 2026 and newborn bonus: the real figures and the dates to remember
11 min readCAF Cinisello Balsamo

The Italy single allowance 2026 and the newborn bonus are two different INPS aids that, for a family that has just grown, almost always arrive together: the first pays a monthly amount per child (from 58,30 to 203,80 euro for a minor child, depending on the ISEE), the second gives 1.000 euro once only for every child born, adopted or placed in foster care in 2026. Two separate applications, two separate deadlines: in this guide you find the updated figures and the days to mark on the calendar. Our patronato in Cinisello Balsamo prepares both procedures in a single appointment.
Single allowance and newborn bonus: two aids that do not exclude each other

Sara and Michele live in via Bergamo and in September they came home from the hospital with Livia, their first daughter. The following week they sat down in front of us with the baby in the pram and just one question: «everyone talks about money for newborns: what are we actually entitled to?». The answer is two things together, and they also apply to the families of Cinisello Balsamo who grew in 2026.
The single and universal allowance is a monthly payment from INPS for every dependent child: it starts as early as the seventh month of pregnancy and continues until the child turns 21. The newborn bonus is a different measure: 1.000 euro in a single payment for each child born, adopted or placed in pre-adoptive foster care between 1 January and 31 December 2026. They are two separate desks: they are requested with two different applications and have two different deadlines, but a family with a newborn can open both.
In short
Italy single allowance 2026: one monthly instalment per child, from 58,30 to 203,80 euro for a minor child according to the ISEE. Newborn bonus 2026: 1.000 euro once only for children born or adopted in the year, with the ISEE for family benefits up to 40.000 euro and the application within 120 days of the event. The exact figures are decided by the ISEE: it is worth checking them before the months go by.
Newborn bonus 2026: the 1.000 euro that arrives only once

Let's start with the simpler of the two, the one people waste the most time on because it seems urgent and it is not: actually, it is the only one with a really short deadline. The contribution is 1.000 euro per child, a one-off payment, and it covers births, adoptions and pre-adoptive foster placements that happened during 2026. It is not taxable income and is not entered in your tax return: it arrives in your account and that is it.
- ISEE for specific family benefits and for the inclusion of the minor, calculated without counting the single allowance, not higher than 40.000 euro
- the parent filing the application must be resident in Italy on the date of the birth, the adoption or the foster placement
- the application is due to one of the parents living with the child; if the parents live in two different homes, it is filed by the one who lives with the child
- deadline of 120 days from the birth, the adoption or the child's arrival in the family: after that date the right is lost
- for children who arrived before 14 April 2026, the day the online desk opened, the special deadline was 12 August 2026
Two twins mean two applications, one for each. The request is sent online only: the INPS website with SPID, CIE or CNS, the INPS Mobile app, the Contact Centre or a patronato like ours, which prepares and submits it for you. INPS processes the applications in order of arrival, within the limit of the funds set for the year: those who send first do not receive more, but they wait less.
The four months run fast
120 days from the birth seem like forever, then they go by between the paediatrician, the vaccines and sleepless nights. Bring the documents to our patronato in the first weeks: we prepare the ISEE and submit the bonus without getting to the very last day.
Single allowance 2026: how much arrives each month

The single allowance is not the same for everyone: the amount depends on the household ISEE, the child's age and the number of children. For 2026 INPS has updated amounts and thresholds with the 1,4% revaluation (INPS circular of 30 January 2026, number 7). Here are the new figures:
- ISEE up to 17.468,51 euro: 203,80 euro per month for each minor child, which is the maximum in the table
- with an ISEE between the two thresholds the amount falls gradually, line by line of the INPS table, without jumps
- ISEE from 46.582,71 euro upwards, or no ISEE filed: 58,30 euro per month, the minimum amount guaranteed to everyone
- for children between 18 and 20 years old the amount is lower: from 99,10 euro per month in the most favourable band down to 29,10 euro at the minimum
- for children with a certified disability the amounts are higher and there is no age limit
Then come the increases, which are added to the base amount: 50% more for each child in the first year of life, another 50% for children aged 1 to 3 in households with three or more children, 150 euro per month more for households with four or more dependent children and small increases for mothers under 21 and when both parents work. These are additions granted automatically when they show up in the documents: that is why a wrong DSU is felt every month.
Same family, different figures
Two households with two children can receive two very different amounts simply because one of them has an old ISEE or an increase that was never granted. A check of your documents at the counter is enough to see whether the figures add up: book and we'll do it together.
Who is entitled to the single allowance

How long the right lasts
It is due to parents resident in Italy, Italian citizens, citizens of a European Union country or foreigners with one of the permits provided by law, for every dependent child. For minors no other conditions are needed and the right begins before the birth: the application can be filed as early as the seventh month of pregnancy. Children with a certified disability receive the allowance with no age limits.
The conditions for those aged 18 to 21
- attends a school or vocational training course, or a university degree course
- does an internship or a job with an annual income not higher than 8.000 euro
- is registered as unemployed and looking for work with the public employment services
- performs universal civil service
The 8.000 euro income limit is the most common trap among twenty-year-olds who start working: the first serious contract can lower the allowance without anyone noticing. If the parents live in different homes, the allowance is split 50% between them, unless agreements or court measures assign the whole amount to the parent the child lives with. The money arrives every month in the account indicated in the application (current account or passbook with IBAN, card with IBAN) or by a domiciled transfer at the post office counter.
Application and ISEE: what to do and by when
The single allowance application can be filed in any month of the year, online on the INPS website with SPID, CIE or CNS, from the INPS Mobile app, at the Contact Centre or with us at the patronato. Those who already had an application accepted in previous years do not have to redo it: INPS keeps paying automatically, month after month. The only thing to keep alive is the ISEE, because that is what decides the amount.
- from February 2026 the amounts updated by 1,4% enter the payment, with the adjustment of the January instalment paid from March
- from March 2026 the amount is calculated with the new ISEE for family benefits and for inclusion, introduced by the 2026 Budget Law: January and February were still settled on the ISEE valid on 31 December 2025
- without a valid ISEE from March 2026 the allowance stays at the legal minimum, that is 58,30 euro per month for a minor child
- by filing the DSU by 30 June 2026 you recover the March arrears: after that date the right amount starts only from the month of the new DSU
- newborn bonus: 120 days from the event, with no extensions or recoveries
The golden rule
DSU first, then everything else. With an updated ISEE the single allowance reaches its full amount and the newborn bonus easily passes the 40.000 euro check: two birds with one appointment.
How the appointment at our patronato works
With us the two procedures are closed in the same meeting, in about half an hour. We see you by appointment only, so that when you arrive there is already an operator ready with your file open.
1. Choose the day
Write to us on WhatsApp, drop by Via Oreste Terenghi 21/23, 20092 Cinisello Balsamo (MI), or ask for the slot however you prefer: we are open from Monday to Friday, from 9:30 to 12:30 and from 15:00 to 19:00. With a newborn at home there is no need to wait weeks: come even when the baby is only a few days old, so that the 120-day deadline stays far away.
2. We prepare the ISEE and the applications
With the documents in hand we calculate the ISEE for family benefits, check that all the increases are due and fill in the single allowance application and, if needed, the newborn bonus one. We tell you the quote for the procedures before we start: in the end there are no surprises.
3. We submit and give you the receipt
We send everything to INPS online and leave you the receipt with the file numbers. From that moment you just watch your account: the single allowance comes back every month around the 20th, the newborn bonus arrives only once.
For Sara and Michele the whole thing lasted less than a walk to the park of Villa Ghirlanda: one DSU, two applications, two receipts in the little girl's file. «We thought we had to choose between one aid and the other», Sara said as she left. There was no choice to make: they were entitled to both.
The questions we get asked most often
Here are the five answers we hand over most often at the counter of our patronato, between the single allowance and the newborn bonus. If your case is particular — twins, international adoption, adult children — it is worth talking it through in person.
Questions we get most often
How much do you receive with the single allowance in 2026?
From 58,30 to 203,80 euro per month for each minor child: the maximum with an ISEE up to 17.468,51 euro, the minimum from 46.582,71 euro upwards or without an ISEE. For children aged 18 to 20 it ranges from 29,10 to 99,10 euro. The 2026 figures are those updated by 1,4% by the INPS circular of 30 January 2026, and to them are added the increases for the first year of life, for large households and for mothers under 21.
Can you have both the single allowance and the newborn bonus?
Yes, because they are two distinct measures that do not affect each other. The single allowance is a monthly payment that lasts until the child turns 21, the newborn bonus is a one-off contribution of 1.000 euro linked to births and adoptions in 2026. You do need two separate applications, and for the bonus there is the ISEE limit of 40.000 euro that the single allowance does not have.
What happens if I don't have a valid ISEE?
From March 2026 the single allowance is paid at the legal minimum amounts, that is 58,30 euro per month for a minor child. With the DSU filed by 30 June 2026 you recover the arrears from March; after 30 June the right amount runs only from the month in which you file the declaration. Without an ISEE the newborn bonus cannot be requested at all, because the value referring to the minor is needed.
When and how does the money arrive?
The single allowance arrives every month, normally around the 20th, in the current account or passbook with IBAN indicated in the application, on a card with IBAN or by a domiciled transfer at the post office counter. The newborn bonus arrives only once, after the INPS assessment, following the order of arrival of the applications within the available resources.
My child has turned 18: does the single allowance continue?
Yes, until age 21, but with one more condition: the child must have an annual income not higher than 8.000 euro and be in one of these situations: studying or attending a training course, doing an internship or a job, being registered as unemployed at the employment centre, or performing universal civil service. The base amount falls to 99,10 euro per month in the most favourable band.
